Tree Nuts are a huge group. They are usually defined as being “culinary nuts” rather than a precise botanical definition of a nut. They include, but are not limited to, Brazil, hazel, almond, macadamia, cashew, pecan, pistachio, and Chestnuts. Any nuts can cause an allergic reaction, whether that is mild or severe, therefore many doctors will automatically prescribe an Adrenaline Auto Injector Device in case you react more severely next time (or severely to different type of nut). In some cases the sufferer will react to several types and Peanuts. In others it will be limited to one type of nut only. It is very difficult to try to accurately predict who will react to which combinations of nuts. Whilst evidence suggests certain common links – such as a response to Pistachio seems to indicate a higher risk of response to Cashew - not every nut allergy sufferer will have more than one trigger. It is often advised to simply avoid all nuts. Most tree nut allergic patients can eat seeds such as Pine Nuts or Coconut with no problems but discussion with your specialist is always advised before trying anything new.
